3 new deconstruction projects completed |

Rethinking demolition Resource uses the term deconstruction for our approach to demolishing buildings by hand to maximize the reuse and recycling of materials. It aims to divert building materials that would otherwise have been destroyed and dumped in landfill using the traditional demolition approach – i.e. knocking it down as quickly as possible with an excavator. With each project we have stopped 95-98% of all material from going to landfill. This waste is normally made up of asbestos, plasterboard (as there is no processing facility in Tasmania) and small amounts of debris such as old insulation. - By salvaging these materials we turn “waste” into a resource, providing second-hand or recycled building materials for the local community.
- By reusing and recycling 100s of tons of materials we are helping the environment practically, by diverting materials out of the waste stream and saving embodied energy through reuse and recycling
- By employing humans instead of relying on machinery (usually just the one) we are able to create more local employment.
