Have you got an old mobile phone sitting around in a drawer at home?

Heaps of discarded mobile phones

Not sure what to do with it? It is estimated that Tasmanians have already amassed around 600,000 unused phones (and more every day!) and it is essential that these do not end up in landfill.

Mobile phones contain a cocktail of highly toxic chemicals, which can leach from decomposing waste in landfills, and seep into ground water, contaminate  the soil, and enter the food chain. Not good!

Cerebral Palsy Tasmania is raising money through the Aussie Recycling Program to collect these unused mobile phones and send them for recycling. For each mobile phone you donate Cerebral Palsy receives $5!

So, you are not only doing the right thing for the environment, you are helping to raise money to support people with disabilities in Tasmania. All money raised in Tasmania, stays in Tasmania.

RESOURCE WORK COOPERATIVE IS AIMING TO RAISE $10,000 FOR CEREBRAL PALSY BY COLLECTING 2,000 UNUSED MOBILE PHONES.

Please tell your family, friends, school and work colleges about this challenge!

Mobile phones can be donated at the South Hobart Tip Shop and the Collectables Shop in the CBD.

Thank you for your support!

Resource is pleased to announce... PDF Print E-mail

…the recent appointment of Andy Vagg to the position of Education Officer.

It has been a long term goal of Resource to create this position to further expand our commitment to community education in all things sustainable.

Andy is passionate about living sustainably, and is excited about his new role at Resource:

This is a really amazing place to work, and I am excited about the future of Resource in minimizing and redirecting post-consumer materials from landfill. There are so many great ideas around already, and often people are simply unaware. It is particularly exciting to see the potential of our young people to choose to live sustainably into the future.

Andy is working Tuesdays & Wednesdays and there are already new and exciting incentives underway.

Welcome to the new website for Resource Work Cooperative!

We will continue to build our website over the coming weeks and months and we will be updating and adding on a regular basis. There will be plenty of interesting and useful information that will help you live sustainably into the future!

For instance:

  • did you know that on average each year each person in Hobart contributes half a tonne of post-consumer material to landfill just from domestic collection alone
  • then consider that about half of this material is organic kitchen and garden waste that could be made into useful compost
  • and that it is estimated that if you add material discarded from manufacturing it is actually closer to one tonne of material per person per year destined for landfill
  • now couple that to less than 100kg of post-consumer material recycled per person per year
  • then you begin to get the picture that we need to rethink the way we are living!
