So where do the profits go?
Resource is a not-for-profit charitable cooperative but what does that mean? Almost all the money we make after paying our overheads (wages, rent, insurance, etc.) is invested back into making Resource Work Cooperative a sustainable, dynamic ongoing organization.
Most importantly it is used to open up new employment in a State that has been traditionally lacking work opportunities. The jobs we create are sustainable and rewarding in an ethical business run as a cooperative by the workers themselves. Some of our surplus is also invested in infrastructure to improve our shop facilities and storage.
Resource is also aware of our position in the wider community - which is why we organize the Art From Trash community art exhibition, AppleLand and also donate a percentage of our profits each year to an overseas development project. We also donate some of the more amazing, rare and culturally significant finds to organizations like the Maritime Museum, Transport Museum and Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. |
